ELSEWISE — AN AI TEXT ADVENTURE

ELSEWISE is an AI text adventure you play in your browser. You type what your character does, in plain words — open the drawer, ask the clerk about the missing train, walk north until the streetlights stop. The world answers, and it remembers.

HOW AN AI TEXT ADVENTURE WORKS

A classic text adventure is built from fixed rooms and pre-written responses. ELSEWISE instead uses an AI narrator to generate each location as you walk into it. There is no fixed plot: the AI describes what you find, how the people there react, and what changes because of what you did.

The important part is consistency. Behind the narrator, the game keeps an authoritative record of your inventory, the people you have met, the places you have opened, and the consequences you have earned. The AI proposes what happens next; the game decides what actually became true. That is what separates an AI text adventure from a chatbot telling a story — the world cannot be talked into rewriting itself.

WHAT A RUN FEELS LIKE

Each adventure starts with an immediate problem in a strange but rule-abiding place: a records office that files events before they happen, a hotel where the night shift never ends. Somewhere underneath is a hidden mystery, seeded when the world was made. Clues you find stay found; doors you lock stay locked; people remember what you promised them.

You control only your own character — your movement, your words, your attention. The world, its people, and its outcomes belong to the game. A run takes about fifteen to twenty-five minutes and reaches a real ending.

TONE AND SETTINGS

Before each adventure you choose the location — a curated world or one you invent — and tune the tone, weirdness, danger, and how strongly the story pushes back. The narration stays calm, deadpan, and a little absurd: strange, never graphic.

The free plan includes five adventures a week. Paid plans add more adventures, more curated worlds, and custom worlds of your own.
